Two things made watching Ratatouille yesterday very special.

One, my whole family went to watch it together – me with the best husband in the world and the best three children in the world. My husband’s movie of choice is usually action and sci fi. Rated G movies are never on his list. But he came along and I did not see him fall asleep once. That says a lot about Ratatouille. And that my teenagers chose to see it with us instead of with their friends made me really happy.

Two, we saw the movie for free! Our good friend gave us 5 tickets that he bought with his own hard-earned money. “It’s my treat,” he says “to thank you for all the things you do for our church.” I almost cried…thanks Tony! It’s not just the money, but his thoughtfulness really touched me.

We hardly ever see a first run movie because it’s more expensive, plus we don’t want to fight the crowd. For the 5 of us to see a movie is a luxury. So getting to see Ratatouille free was really a treat. In order to make the most of it, we got there an hour early just in case. It was hot at home anyway, might as well enjoy the air conditioning at the theater. There was in fact a long line at the box office. While there was no line to get into the show, the theater filled up quickly. We got our first pick of center seats towards the back. Reading the movie trivia on the screen for 1/2 an hour, over and over and over again … well, that’s ok too. Sitting in a comfortable chair with the air on full blast – I did not have a complaint.
