The Dragon Keeper by Carole Wilkinson is a fantasy adventure set in China in the days when Imperial Emperors and dragons existed. The heroine is a little slave girl who discovers her destiny as the true dragon keeper by helping the last of the imperial dragon, Danza. They journeyed together to the ocean to hatch the last dragon egg, fighting off adversaries along the way. The 1000+ year-old Danza teaches her to develop her qi (or chakra in Japanese anime), the energy that flows through people that can give them extraordinary strength. Danza also gives a few pseudo-wise Confusius-type sayings such as “The sapling is small, but none can defeat it”, and “The path is easy if you avoid turning off it.”
It’s about a 7th grade level book, simple but fun to read. I read it because Amy had to read it for school. It keeps me in touch with what is going on with my children. I read most of the books Elliot and Audrey had to read through high school.

  2. Elliot Says:

What does she do to develop her chakra? Run up trees?!

    Haha! I remember that episode.
Practice by focusing energy on her fingertips to move objects, not on her feet.
