The last time Mike and I went somewhere overnight without the children was before Amy was born. We went to Mazatlan and Cabo San Lucas, both times were for semi-business when Century 21 was promoting the sale of Mexico property. I remember leaving Elliot and Audrey with friends for 2 days; they were about 6-7 years old. It was a big deal for us to go that far, by air, and leave the kids. that was pre-cell phone era; I couldn’t even check on them. I am thankful to God that we came home safe, otherwise they would’ve been orphaned.

December 3-4, we spent 2 days one night away at Laguna Beach, in celebration of our 20th anniversary. It was my choice to stay at a hotel right on the beach. It was very relaxing. I did not miss or worry about the kids as much as I thought I would. They did not miss me that much either!

A brief review of the Vacation Village Hotel in Laguna Beach: We stayed at the top floor of the Reef Tower. The draw of this particular room was the side ocean view without the full ocean view price, and the large jacuzzi bathtub. The room was simply furnished, towels were maybe 3/4 of a step above Motel 6. The jacuzzi tub did not disappoint – deep, full size, and strong jets. The best part of the hotel – it was right on the sands. We went downstairs and stepped onto soft sand. The waves were 50 feet away. The vastness of the ocean and the open sky puts life into perspective. God is in charge of the universe, I have no worries. I love the beach and hope to live very close to the beach with an ocean view one day.

Back to the Vacation Village Hotel, it is located about two blocks from the action in town. We walked to the Christmas affair they were having. A section of a street of small shops was closed off. Santa was there along with some live music performances. I was glad we were there for that bit of Christmas spirit. If you cannot afford a 5-star hotel on the beach, Vacation Village Hotel is a good choice of a hotel with direct beach access.

It was a good time for Mike and I to spend some time together. Next mini-vacation……any suggestions?
