Yesterday, I turned off the computer from 11:30-3:00, as a spiritual discipline.

Even though I am not always on the computer, I have a tendency to turn to the computer in my spare time – to read blogs, read the news, read articles on my favorite websites, search for interesting clips on Youtube, etc. Once in a while I might even get a forward on my email worth reading.

When I have the computer off yesterday, I prayed instead of Googling for answers. Instead of reading my emails, I read the Bible. I turned to God instead of emailing a friend for advice. I looked up at the sky, listened to the birds, and placed my focus on God rather than on the monitor.

I felt a sense of freedom and freshness for 3 1/2 hours.
