Every year we hear of fires in the Southern Cal areas due to the warm and gusty Santa Ana winds.

My dad’s house at the foothills of Pasadena have seen fires close by in the San Gabriel mountains, but never close enough to have to evacuate.

This year, it came close within about 5 miles of Walnut.

I am not a sentimental person. I would welcome a fire to destroy the back part of my house so insurance can give me a new family room.

I figured other than photo albums, an envelop of our important documents, and data on my computer, almost everything can be replaced.

But my daughter reminded me that Ikea no longer makes her slide bed. Many of her stuffed animals are vintage. And my Hello Kitty collection, with an original one from Japan…

I’m glad the fires didn’t get that close.  I don’t need a family room that badly.
